Mr Henry Tan has vast experience in the oil and petrochemicals industry, having served with Shell in Singapore, Europe and the United Kingdom for 34 years. He was the Managing Director (CEO) of Ethylene Glycols Pte Ltd, a Shell/Japanese Consortium Joint Venture.
After retiring from Shell, he assisted Temasek Holdings in a due-diligence for a substantial equity acquisition of Chandra Asri, the largest petrochemical company in Indonesia. He was subsequently appointed Chief Operating Office and Vice President Director of Strategy for Chandra Asri in 2006. Mr Tan also led the acquisition of another petrochemical company, PT Styrindo Mono Indonesia, and was subsequently appointed its President Director (CEO), a post he held for over a year, concurrently with his appointment in Chandra Asri. He was also a key player in the Chandra Asri team that concluded a large syndicated loan and explored bond financing.
Upon returning to Singapore in late 2008, Mr Tan was an advisor to SembCorp Industries Ltd for about nine months before joining Gas Supply Pte Ltd as a non-executive director in 2009. He was on various Board committees and was appointed Chairman of its Audit Committee in 2013.
In 2019, Mr Tan was appointed Chairman of the Board of Fortrec Chemicals & Petroleum Pte Ltd, an Enterprise 50 company. He is also an advisor to a number of small and medium enterprises and startups.
Mr Tan is a long-term member of the Singapore Institute of Directors and served two years on its’ professional development committee. On the social front, he has been supporting a school in Indonesia to improve their English literacy and the quality of their teachers since 2008.
Mr Tan graduated from the University of Singapore with a Bachelor of Science (Honours) degree in Physics.
